Fire department needed protection against flooding

Municipal administration Durach| Durach, Oberallgäu in Bavaria | Flood protection

The problem

Durach is a community in the Swabian district of Oberallgäu in Bavaria. It is located four kilometers south of Kempten (Allgäu). The village of Durach is crossed by the tributary of the Iller river of the same name, the Durach. During heavy rainfall, flooding repeatedly occurred in the inner courtyard of the fire station because debris blocked the pipes.

Solution

WaStop® Inline Check valve

In order to protect the drainage outlet of the fire station against backwater during rapidly rising floods, a WaStop was retrofitted to the existing KG2000 pipe in DN300. The installation was carried out by the municipal building yard in an uncomplicated and time-saving manner.

Especially smaller rivers and streams change their water levels and flow velocities in a very short time during heavy rainfall events. This is often accompanied by flotsam, branches and dirt. Since the WaStop, in contrast to the classic (frog) flap technology, sits as an inliner directly in the end of the pipe, damage to the valve or a breakage of moving parts is impossible.
