WaGate Sluice Gate environmental install in Plain Dealing, LA

Plain Dealing, LA| Shut-off & Control

The problem

Even the smallest communities need to follow state and federal regulations to keep their residents safe mishandled wastewater.  The town of Plain Dealing, LA, population 875, is no different.

BAR Environmental has been working with the town to overcome decades of differed maintenance and get the wastewater plant running the way it was intended to. In the process, the service crew from BAR Environmental found that the clarifiers needed to be rehabilitated. In order to replace the failed flexible baffles in the clarifiers with proper rigid baffles, the service crew from BAR Environmental will need a dry work area.

The old control gates in those clarifiers no longer functioned properly during daily use, so they certainly could not control flow to isolate the work area for the much needed clarifier repairs. BAR Environmental selected WAPRO control gates as a necessary first step in this vital rehabilitation.

Solution

WaGate® Sluice Gate

Small towns do not have the funds to make mistakes in the firms they work with or the equipment they have installed, so BAR Environmental chose corrosion proof WaGate SPK – TG 316 stainless steel gates for an immediate solution and long lasting durability.

As in many projects, there was a hiccup during the installation process whereas the clarifier’s old brittle concrete did not immediately provide a good place for the WaGate anchor bolts to take root. After a quick application of epoxy in the original anchor holes, the bolts were set, and the gate installation completed.

At the end of the day BAR Environmental and the great town of Plain Dealing were pleased with the ease and speed of installation. At start up the utility director said, in true small town style: ‘This is great! Now I can focus on the next thing'.
