WaGate protects against extinguishing water in Halmstad

Halmstad, Sweden| Shut-off & Control

The problem

A fire training facility in Halmstad, which handles both rainwater and extinguishing water, was in need of a solution to manage the latter effectively and safely. Fire extinguishing water contains many pollutants and hazardous substances that one does not want to release into the environment. These substances can cause damage to ecosystems and water resources. According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (2017), it is important to minimize the amount of fire extinguishing water released into the environment due to its negative impact. Therefore, it was critical for the customer to ensure that fire suppression water is not released into the environment and causes environmental damage. And we were able to help them with that.

Solution

WaGate® Gate Valve

The solution we provided is a DN1200 plastic well with angled fencing and an integrated shut-off valve (SVM-TG DN110) to enable one to turn off the pipe and collect all extinguishing water in the well for easier cleaning.

The well has fencing (a slope/fall towards the drain where the water flows), making it possible to clean the well without causing the water to flow into the environment. The project consisted of four wells, all of which had different angles on the inlet and outlet while also having fencing, and the colleagues at Technical Support needed to create a special solution to match the angles and fulfill the customer's requirements.

We are grateful to have helped our customer in Halmstad by providing a unique solution that meets their needs while also having a positive impact on the environment.
