WaReg protects a conservation area in Huddinge

Stockholm Water, Birka Mark, Onninen| Skogskärrsvägen, Huddinge, Sweden| Flood protection Flow regulation Residential

The problem

A nature reservation in Huddinge is undergoing a change to allow permanent residents to live in the area. Part of the process involves laying a stormwater drainage system. The stormwater system must allow for sedimentation of particles in the water before allowing the water to be released into the nearby lake. In this particular case the area is extra sensitive given its close proximity to both the lake and a nature reserve. Any failure in the sedimentation process could lead to damage to the ecosystem.

Solution

WaReg® Flow Regulator

Sedimentation was achieved by allowing the water to filter through a smaller dam. This dam is limited in its capacity which makes it imperative that it is not overloaded. The maximum capacity of the dam was determined to be 75l/s.

A WaReg was then installed to limit the flow into the dam to a maximum of 75l/s. WaReg is designed to be insensitive to debris in stormwater applications, and is autonomous requiring no electricity or manual actions.
