The problem

This collection well connects five pipes into one. To avoid overloading the downstream network, Uppsala Water required the client to release a maximum of 50 l/s. Heavy rain can cause the wastewater network to become overloaded. This can in turn mean that the water treatment plant cannot keep up, resulting in the stormwater system filling up and overflowing into the sewage system. The treatment plant will then have to treat clean water, which adds unnecessary strain and increased costs. The treatment plant may also become overloaded with backflow in the wastewater network, resulting in flooded basements. In the worst case, a municipality may be forced to overflow wastewater into a river or the sea, resulting in fines.

Solution

WaReg® Flow Regulator

The collection well has a total of five inlets: three DN315 inlets from a cassette magazine, one DN400 inlet from an oil separator, and one DN500 inlet from roof water and courtyard water. An isolation gate was installed on the outlet, a DN200, to enable shutting off in case of accidents, preventing contaminated water from proceeding. A Wastop DN400 was installed on the incoming pipe from the oil separator to prevent water from flowing back into the oil separator and damaging the process. After this well, a WaReg DN250 was installed to regulate the flow to 50 l/s, independent of the pressure in the cassette magazine. WaReg begins to regulate immediately when there is an excess pressure and releases the desired flow, regardless of the pressure. This made the choice of WaReg an easy one.
