WaGate & WaStop protect Ystad Port

Ystad is a city in Skåne County, with 31,560 inhabitants. Ystad is one of the main towns in Österlen and is known, to many, thanks to the Swedish TV series Wallander which takes place in the picturesque town. You can therefore visit the filming locations, either on your own or with a guide. Thanks to its location along the Österlen coast, there are also incredibly beautiful beaches here. Visit the beach in Sandhammaren which is considered Sweden's finest beach with sand that is unparalleled in whiteness and fineness.

Ystad Port is one of the largest ferry ports in Sweden and is a natural gateway to Bornholm and Poland and further out into Europe. The port has a strategic location and plays an important role for the transport industry and as a supplier to the Swedish business community.

Ystad Port is constantly growing and when building a new parking lot for trucks, there was a requirement to be able to shut off a DN1500 storm water pipe, in case an accident were to occur on the surface. It was something that, fortunately, we could help them with.

Wapro WaGate and WaStop protects Ystad harbor prevents pollution and flooding Sweden with DN1500 SPM-P-TG combination

The solution

The solution was a combination of our WaGate SPM-P-TG DN1500 which was mounted on the outgoing pipe, and WaStop DN1200 and DN500 which were placed on the inlet pipe. The WaGate closes in the event of a breakdown and/or accident and ensures that pollutants in the storm water do not flow into the sea. The WaStop was mounted on the inlets in the chamber, to prevent seawater from pushing up into the pipe network at high tide. Without our WaStops, the seawater would have caused flooding in buildings around the area. We are pleased that we were given the opportunity to protect Ystad Port against water pollution and flooding.
