Klarälven is protected with WaGate
Karlstad is a municipality in Värmland with over 95,000 inhabitants and is located halfway between Stockholm and Oslo. In the Karlstad region you will find Karlstad, Forshaga, Grums, Hammarö and Kil which together have 145,000 inhabitants. Karlstad is a large city for visitors where you can experience concerts, go to museums or watch the Färjestad hockey team. Here you will also find the Klarälven which is about 460 kilometres long.
The municipality had concerns with the Klarälven in particular. When the water level rose, nearby areas flooded. To protect the pedestrian and bicycle underpass that was next to it, they had to look into flood protection.
The solution
The solution fell on our WaGate Sluice Gate SPM-P-TG. When the water gets too high in the Klarälven, the gate is closed and the water that flows to Torpnoret is pumped out into the river via a pumping station. With the help of a water meter that keeps track of the water level, they can shut off the water flow at a higher water level.
Thanks to the sluice gates, there is no flooding in the nearby areas. And we thank, as usual, our customer in Karlstad and everyone involved for their good cooperation. We are always pleased when we can protect people and property.
