WaGate sluice gates environmental installation in Plain Dealing, LA
Even the smallest communities must comply with state and federal regulations to keep their residents safe from mismanaged wastewater. The city of Plain Dealing, LA, population 875, is no exception.
BAR Environmental has worked with the city to overcome decades of deferred maintenance and get the wastewater treatment plant back up and running as intended. During the course of the work, BAR Environmental service crews discovered that the clarifiers needed to be rehabilitated. In order to replace the broken flexible baffles in the clarifiers with proper rigid baffles, BAR Environmental service crews needed a dry work area.
The old control gates in these clarifiers were no longer operating properly in daily use, so they were definitely not able to control the flow to isolate the work area for the necessary clarifier repairs. BAR Environmental selected WAPRO gate gates as a necessary first step in this important rehabilitation.
The solution
Small towns can’t afford to make mistakes with the companies they work with or the equipment they install, so BAR Environmental chose corrosion-resistant WaGate SPK – TG 316 stainless steel sluice gates for an immediate solution and long-term durability.
As with many projects, a slight complication arose during the installation process when the old, brittle concrete in the clarifier did not immediately provide a good surface for the WaGate anchor bolts to attach properly. After a quick application of epoxy in the original anchor holes, the bolts were seated, and the installation of the sluice gates was completed.
Ultimately, both BAR Environmental and the friendly town of Plain Dealing were pleased with the ease and speed of the installation. Upon commissioning, the shop manager, in true small-town fashion, said, “This is great! Now I can focus on the next thing.”
