Flood protection

Protect properties, infrastructure and water and wastewater systems from backflow and flooding during high water levels and heavy rainfall.

A flood can quickly have serious consequences

Heavy rainfall, high water levels and overloaded drainage systems can cause backflow and flooding in stormwater and wastewater systems. When water can no longer drain away or begins to flow back through the system, the risk of damage to properties, infrastructure and other vulnerable areas increases.

Effective flood protection prevents backflow while allowing water to flow in the intended direction under normal conditions. Our check valves and other flood protection solutions protect vulnerable parts of stormwater and wastewater systems – and ultimately the people, properties and communities affected when these systems fail to function as intended. The solutions can be used in both new and existing installations.

Which solution is right for flood protection?

Different types of flood risks require different solutions. WaStop Inline check valve protects stormwater pipes against backflow and is an option where water may flow back through the pipe network. WaBack Non-return chamber is normally open and is suitable for wastewater and stormwater systems where free flow is important under normal conditions.

WaFlap Flap valve is primarily used at outlets where high water levels can cause backflow. The flap valves open with the outgoing water flow and close when the external water level rises.

Protect Mclane Stadium at Baylor University

To prevent backflow in the pumps, a WaStop Check Valve was installed in each pump. In a football stadium, stormwater is rarely free of debris. Mugs, hot dogs, packaging, and other debris eventually end up in the stormwater system. The designers were impressed by the WaStop’s pulsating flow mechanism, which ensures that no debris gets stuck in the valve and keeps the line clear of sediment both upstream and downstream.

In addition to the three valves that protect the pumps, there is a fourth WaStop that prevents floodwater from entering the stadium’s drainage system during high tide. Two more WaStops have been installed in the nearby athletics stadium for the same reason.

Thanks to WaStop’s patented memory membrane and pulsating flow, Baylor University and its fans can relax in the knowledge that the Bears will play no matter what the weather.
