Problem

Unima has been a pioneer in the shrimp industry in Madagascar for over 30 years. Located on the west coast of the island in the Indian Ocean, they have developed ecological fishing and farming models by applying best practices that respect and conserve the environment. With approximately 4,000 employees, Unima is Madagascar´s largest shrimp exporter with 7,500 tonnes of shrimp farmed per year. Being a land-based farm with discharge to the Indian Ocean, fish and crabs entering the farm through the outfall system poses a threat. Intrusive fish and crabs can not only eat the farmed shrimps but also bring with them pollutants and diseases.

Solution

Two DN900 WaStop Inline Check Valves were installed to replace the ineffective flap valves and prevent crabs and fish from entering the shrimp farm. The WaStop valves were installed on the outfall and provided peace of mind and protection immediately.
"We are really satisfied with the installation, our shrimps now grow in peace and quiet"
